EGoMs For Funding Of Highways Projects
By Pritha Dey
There has been no shortage of financial resources for execution of highways projects by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The Union Government had constituted in the month of October 2009 an Empowered Group of Minister (EGoM) for consideration of the financial plan for National Highways Development Project (NHDP) for the year 2010-11 onward for further action including such changes to the work plan as may become necessary.
EGoM’s composition included Finance Minister, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
EGoM had approved the work plan of NHAI on year to year basis looking into its resource position till 2011-12. Adequate provision of resources for execution of NHDP programme for the current financial year has been made from out of cess, toll revenues as well as market borrowings/bonds.
This information was given by the Minister of State of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Jitin Prasada in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
